MARIA T. GOFF
Maria T. Goff, 77, widow of the late Hyrum Goff, died Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. at the family residence in Midvale, following a brief illness of heart trouble.
Mrs. Goff, daughter of John and Clarissa Arnold, was born in Midvale, May 1, 1853, one of the first children born in that part of Salt Lake valley. Besides Mrs. Goff in the Arnold family there were two sons, Joseph and Orson P. Arnold, and two daughters, Ellen and Melissa Arnold.
For many years Mrs. Goff was active in the L. D. S. Primary organization. Later she was identified with Relief society work, and during the time her husband was president of the Jordan stake, she was one of the presidency in stake Relief society work. Before the time of undertakers, she was outstanding in ministering to the sick and caring for the dead.
Mrs. Goff is survived by six sons and daughters: Clifford I. Goff of Midvale; George A. Goff and Alma A. Goff of Salt Lake. Mrs. Ella A. Hallstrom of Rexburg, Idaho; Mrs. Melissa L. Smith of Midvale and Mrs. Clarissa L. Warner of Herculaneum, Mo., and 29 grandchildren. The late Harold Goff, former editor of The Deseret News, was a son.
In addition to her own family. Mrs. Goff reared six children of the former wife of her husband. Those who survive of this group are as follows: Mrs. Clara Wilson, Mrs. Edna Call, Mrs. Edith Bennion. Mrs. Mary Nielson and Harry Goff.
Funeral arrangements await word from the daughter in Missouri.
